Everton and TFG submit huge £37m bid to sign “powerful” new star for Moyes

Everton are having a busy final month of the transfer window in the hopes of having more success in the Premier League than they did in pre-season. David Moyes’ side were winless across their friendlies and the Premier League summer series despite a strong finish to the league last season.

The latest arrival is England winger Jack Grealish, who has joined the Toffees on a season-long loan. If Grealish manages to revitalise his career on Merseyside, then Everton will have the option to make the signing permanent for £50 million next summer.

Off the back of signing Grealish, Everton have been heavily linked with signing Ipswich’s Omari Hutchinson. Hutchinson has been known to feature in attacking midfield and on the wing, both areas that Everton need to reinforce, and has been notably absent from Ipswich’s recent fixtures.

However, another player might be through the door before Hutchinson, as the Friedkin Group has reportedly bid to sign a new striker for Everton.

Everton make £37m bid to sign Ukrainian striker Dovbyk

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Everton have submitted a bid for Ukraine forward Artem Dovbyk from AS Roma, who are also owned by TFG. The bid is reported to be worth £37 million, and the player is open to a move to the Premier League.

However, Everton aren’t the only Club interested in Dovbyk. The reports also list Leeds United, West Ham, and Sunderland as interested parties, but they are yet to place a bid. Earlier in the window, Dovbyk had been linked with Arsenal, but the London side eventually opted for Viktor Gyokeres.

Dovbyk first gained international recognition after a stellar 2023/24 campaign that saw him lead Girona to European qualification. During that season, Dovbyk registered 34 goals in 39 appearances, and he was picked up by Roma the following January.

The Ukrainian number 11 currently earns £41,000 a week at Roma and might be expecting a pay rise to leave Rome. Any wage demands may be worth meeting, considering he has been described as a “powerful target man” and compared with Dusan Vlahovic and Santiago Gimenez.

Dovbyk and Beto’s reliability

If Everton completes the deal for Dovbyk, then they will have two reliable strikers on their hands.

Dovbyk has a slightly better goals-to-game ratio than Everton’s current main striker, Beto; however, both have reasonable rates that are close to or just over a goal involvement every other game.

Both strikers’ Xg difference shows their reliability as well. Beto marginally underperforms his Xg, and Dovbyk marginally overperforms. What this means is that both players take their chances when they are provided with them. They won’t score many unexpected worldies, but if Everton can provide them with chances, they will convert them.

New striker Thierino Barry is more of an unknown quantity. His numbers don’t match Beto and Dovbyk’s, but he is younger and has plenty of time to improve. With two experienced strikers ahead of him, Barry will have less pressure to be an instant success, as when he struggles, the team will still have two reliable strikers.
