Chelsea prepared to make formal approach for £40m forward

Chelsea are now prepared to make a formal approach for an “electric” £40m forward, who could be in line to join alongside RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

Blues stepping up pursuit of new attackers

The Blues have already bolstered their attacking options considerably this summer, signing Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens, but they remain keen on making at least two more additions to their forward line.

Xavi Simons is one of the attacking midfielders in line for a move to Stamford Bridge, and Romano has revealed the Dutchman is eager to join.

Not only are Enzo Maresca’s side looking to bring in a new attacking midfielder, but they also remain keen on signing a new winger, despite already adding Jamie Gittens to their ranks this summer.

In a report for Caught Offside, Romano has stated that Chelsea are now prepared to make an approach for Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho once the squad space is available, with Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku among the players who could be sold.

Once deals to sell the two forwards are finalised, the Blues plan to push for Simons and Garnacho, who have been identified as their two major targets, and there have been suggestions that a deal for the latter player could amount to £40m.

The Blues have already agreed personal terms with the Argentinian, but talks over a deal for Simons are believed to be more advanced, so the Dutchman could feasibly be the next new arrival.

“Electric” Garnacho needs to leave Man Utd

Manchester United fans have been left fuming with their winger’s behaviour this summer, with it arguably reaching boiling point when he was pictured wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford’s name on the back.

As such, it is probably best for all parties if the 21-year-old moves on this summer, and United’s loss could be Chelsea’s gain.

The Red Devils were way below par last season, finishing 15th in the Premier League table, but the Argentina international managed to impress at times, with Troy Deeney claiming he was the only “shining light” in the Manchester derby back in April.

Journalist Liam Canning has also lauded the starlet as “electric” in the past, and he already has a great deal of first-team experience, amassing 26 goals and 22 assists in a total of 144 appearances for Man United.

As such, a £40m transfer fee would be reasonable, and Chelsea will be hoping to get a deal over the line as soon as possible, with the new Premier League campaign set to get underway very soon.
