Newcastle confident of signing “fantastic” £15m ace who scouts have watched

Newcastle United are now increasingly confident of signing a “fantastic” player in the summer transfer window, according to a promising new claim.

Newcastle prepare for huge Chelsea clash

Eddie Howe’s side are edging closer to Champions League qualification, sitting fourth in the Premier League table with just three matches remaining this season.

On Sunday lunchtime, Newcastle face a crucial meeting at home to Chelsea, with the Magpies only ahead of the Blues on goal difference, highlighting the importance of the St James’ Park showdown. The fact that the west Londoners were only in UEFA Europa Conference League action on Thursday evening may play into the hosts’ hands.

While finishing fifth will still be enough to seal a return to the Champions League in 2025/26, victory over Chelsea would give Howe’s men a lovely cushion, with Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa still not out of the reckoning, in sixth and seventh respectively.

Getting back into Europe’s top competition would be huge for Newcastle, in terms of the calibre of players they can sign, and if they can finish in the top five, on top of winning the EFL Cup earlier in the campaign, it would go down as a superb season to build on under PIF.

Newcastle confident of deal after scouting Wilfried Singo

According to a new update from Give Me Sport, Newcastle are “increasingly confident” of completing the signing of Wilfried Singo in the summer window.

The Magpies’ recruitment team, led by Paul Mitchell, believe a deal for the 24-year-old can be struck with current Club Monaco, having previously sent officials to watch him in action. The player himself is thought to like the idea of testing himself in the Premier League, with a bargain £15m fee mooted.

Monaco defender Wilfried Singo

Centre-back is a key area of focus for Newcastle this summer, with the likes of Fabian Schar and Dan Burn now in their 30s while Jamaal Lascelles could move on, so Singo could be an astute signing.

The Ivorian has become a key man for Monaco, starting 21 matches in Ligue 1 this season, as well as appearing six times in the Champions League. Meanwhile, scout/writer Jacek Kulig has called him a “fantastic” player.

Singo is now a 23-cap Ivory Coast international, highlighting his international pedigree, and at 24 years of age, there is still lots of time for him to become a more complete centre-back over time.
